Hosting and domain…

Scribed by: Aidan

When I first set this blog up I was quite apprehensive about the whole purchasing a domain from another company and pointing it towards my new hosting etc as I have no knowledge of this sort of thing at all, well, luckily I do now.

I bought the domain with Heart Internet, who I have seen recommended on many occasion and this is the first time that I have ever bought anything with them. I found them great to deal with and they had the domain set up within 2 hours. It was amazing. My experience of domain name purchasing has been much different in that I have had to wait up to 3 days, sometimes longer before it is fully functional, yet this time it was fantastically quick, although it was with a different host so maybe that’s it…

The good service continued as I purchased the web hosting with eUKhost, who were consistently helpful whenever I had a question to ask about their services or the domain pointing situation. They were more than happy to assist no matter how big or small the question was. The online chat worked extremely well and as with Heart Internet whenever I e-mailed them I received a response within less than 30 minutes!

Admittedly I could have got cheaper hosting with more space, however, eUKhost were extremely helpful and they were in the UK. I was originally going to purchase my hosting from an American company, however, after doing a little bit of research I was informed that it was best not to do this as I would have different standings in terms of being protected by the law in the USA than what I would in the EU, mainly laws referring to my data protection and consumer rights would be effected. I therefore felt it was best to discard the idea of using a company based in the USA.

In addition to all of that I had my web hosting account set up within hours, not even that! I merely asked in the live chat how long it would take as I was intrigued and they asked me for a few little details and they set it up for me. After having all of that sorted I pointed the domain to my new package and I was informed that I would have to wait for up to 72 hours, yet the following morning, bear in mind it was done at about 11.30pm, it was up and running without any problems whatsoever!

I was just completely amazed by the professionalism, support and urgency of the two companies that I used and wouldn’t at all hesitate in recommending them to anyone at all. They’re fantastic to deal with who give you great services for your money.

Just so that you are aware the web hosting package that I took out was the Linux Bronze which gives me;

  • 400mb disk space
  • 5GB bandwidth
  • Unlimited MySQL databases (obviously this is limited by how much space you have)

Those were what I was mainly looking at when purchasing a we hosting package as I obviously need a sufficient amount of disk space, bandwidth and MySQL databases for uploading different blogs or test areas. The web hosting package is actually an improvement from what I was on previously too so it’s definitely all good!
